Joanne founded Harmelin Media in 1982 after a successful career at various Philadelphia advertising agencies. She saw an opportunity for a business that focused solely on media planning and buying, and gained clients quickly. The steady growth that the company has experienced every single year since its founding speaks to Joanne's vision for her company of creating cost-efficient media strategies that provide effective marketing solutions for clients.
She is also very proud of the longevity of her staff, with over 40% having been at the company for more than 10 years.
Since appointing Mary Meder as President in 2002, Joanne has taken a lesser role in the day-to-day operation of the company. She remains very active in the community. She is a board member of Penn Liberty Bank, where she serves as chair of the Comp and Benefits Committee. Other boards that she has served on, most for many years, include the Arden Theatre Company, the Walnut Street Theatre, Bryn Mawr Film Institute, The Philadelphia Zoological Society and the Philadelphia Children's Alliance.
