Facebook joined the connected TV bandwagon announcing a soon-to-launch app allowing users to “watch videos shared by friends or pages you follow, top live videos from around the world, and recommended videos based on your interests” on their televisions. This app will be available on selected smart devices. Facebook wants a piece of the trending digital/traditional video integration. They will continue to serve as a media platform, meaning they will not be generating content-yet.
What this means for marketers: We are likely to see clients’ necessity for social advertising continue to grow in leaps and bounds. The value of Facebook does not go unnoticed, even TV Networks have been seeking Facebook for live stream options because that is where there is audience demand. This connected opportunity is a win-win as it’s beneficial for clients and profitable for Facebook.
