Google is now rewarding sites who use the HTTPS, or secure site, protocol when it comes to breaking ties in organic search results.
What this means for marketers: With privacy and security an ever present hot button issue, not just in the digital marketing world, but our everyday lives, Google is stepping to the forefront and rewarding advertisers who utilize the HTTPS protocol on their sites. If two sites appear to be equally relevant for a search result, and one of those sites uses the HTTPS protocol and one doesn’t, the more secure site will most likely attain the higher position. As marketers plan website redesigns, implementation of the HTTPS protocol could be a beneficial addition to their site. Security and privacy concerns are not going away, so getting ahead of those concerns can only benefit marketers moving forward.
