Continuing our Anniversary Interview Series, we sat down with Wendy Rumer, Senior Media Director/Broadcast, who is celebrating 20 years at Harmelin Media. She gives us her perspective on how the industry has changed during her career, and get to know her personally.
For me, it’s more about what has stayed the same and that’s the strength of TV, especially in light of the amazing leaps in technology in the last 20 years.
What has been your greatest success at Harmelin?
I’ve been on the Philadelphia radio team for at least 15 years. Every year, in the fall, we start the negotiation for the next year’s rates, for every station. We spend hours together, analyzing numbers, researching trends, debating about what’s fair and what is best for our clients. It’s a process that is both exhausting and exhilarating at once. And in the end, it’s very satisfying.
What is the most unique trip you have ever taken?
In 2004, I won a trip to Los Angeles through (what was then) the WB Network. We stayed in Santa Monica, right on the ocean. We got into star-studded places like The Ivy. We, of course, had a tour of the WB Studios where I got to sit on the orange couch from Friends. Finally, there was a huge client party with several WB Network stars. I met Drew Carey, and between all the shows he has hosted, he has met just about everyone, which means that I definitely have less than six degrees of separation with any living star you can think of!
Fun Tidbit about person/Something no one could guess about you?
I’m a crafter. It’s how I spend my down time. I love to make things. I craft with beads, paint, paper, fabric. I actually make some of the things I pin on Pinterest! I just finished sewing the groom a tie-dye vest for my sister’s upcoming wedding.
What is your favorite Song, Movie, or TV Show and why?
I like simple movies and TV shows that end happy. Think Disney or Rudy. I have very active kids, and with an 11-year-old and a 15-year-old, I have enough drama.
Wendy’s colleagues have been enriched by the experience of working with her. “She finds the silver lining in any situation and is always positive – if others see any empty glass, she knows just how to fill it,” commented Wendy’s supervisor, Senior Vice President Cheryl Klear. Media Manager Erin Barrett adds, “Wendy is very personable and has a really positive presence about her. When you look at those characteristics along with her vast knowledge of the industry, it is no wonder why she has such a great rapport with those at Harmelin and others in the media industry.” Media Director Alicia Rho points out that “Wendy genuinely cares about the people she works with. Often, you’ll find her searching for the perfect gift for a rep or client who just got married, had a baby, or is celebrating some other milestone.”
Wendy’s contributions to Harmelin are considerable and we congratulate her on 20 years, and look forward to the next 20.
