The CW has only one new show on the docket for fall and two for mid-season. This comes after a year that EVP of Sales Rob Tuck called the CW’s best season ever. “Our ratings are up year-to-year for the third season in a row. We have broadened our audience and we continue to attract more men. . . we are resonating with viewers, critics and, for the first time, CW is winning major awards recognition.” The major award he’s referring to is the Golden Globe for Best Actress that Gina Rodriguez won for her role in Jane the Virgin.
So what is the one and only show? An hour-long comedy that blends new elements to an old love story. In this one – love is not only blind, but it’s also crazy.

CRAZY EX GIRLFRIEND, Monday 8-9PM Comedy Rebecca Bunch is a career-driven yet possibly crazy young woman who impulsively gives up her life in NYC in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in California. Her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan are traded in for a less sophisticated life in West Covina California, which is stated – and sung – excessively as being “only two hours from the beach and four in traffic!” COMMENTS: Rachel Blooms is adorable as this smart yet common senseless lawyer who follows her one-time summer fling across the country, all the while arguing with herself about her sanity and busting out in song. I found the clever impromptu song and dance ensembles fun yet can see how this may get old soon. The pilot left room for many adventures including a new friend and a new love interest. Showing text messages and phone data on screen was another new twist to modernize the program. This is a sitcom spread over a full hour and will play into the younger demo of the CW yet entertain the older woman demographic as well. It will air leading into Jane the Virgin – which features another loveable actress playing a damsel-in-distress role as viewers root for them to be their own heroes.
CW Mid-Season Replacements
CONTAINMENT From the creator of Vampire Diaries and The Originals, this gory drama tells a story of a deadly epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, forcing a large city quarantine that leaves those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives. The story line, albeit done before, is a stretch from the norm of the CW. The show will explore loved ones tragically torn apart and examine the good and bad of humanity.
DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW This Arrow/Flash spin-off features a time-traveling rogue, Rip Hunter. Having seen the grim future, he is tasked with assembling a group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat, one that puts the whole world in jeopardy.
